Electronic Power Management
Solar cells produce DC (Direct Current) electricity. Many solar power systems are increasingly becoming “intelligent” through the use of electronic controls. There are a variety of power management functions that can be performed. These include, but are not limited to the following:
- Controlling the directional flow of the current
- Monitoring and limiting the amount of electrical charge to the battery
- Providing electrical surge protection to the system
- Controlling the release of power from the battery – 12 volt or 24 volt systems
- Monitoring temperatures - internal systems and ambient
- Internal clocks and/or photo cells to determine external lighting requirements
- Logic for power reduction and efficiency that is application specific
Efficient use of power offers the opportunity to optimize the efficiency all of the components of a solar power system.
