Access to the Sun
While a seemingly simple process, access to the Sun can be a complicated issue. A number of variables have to be considered in determining how much sunlight is available for conversion. These include:
- The angle of the sun in the sky – geographic considerations and time of year
- Cloudiness and overcast weather conditions
- Ambient temperature
- Buildings and vegetation obstructions
All of these variables need to be considered in defining the number of solar cells required for an application.
